I very recently moved house (last week!) and I am very excited about the fact that we now have what we are calling a ‘Garden room’ in, obviously our garden!
I have designated it as my home gym and I love that I now have an area to work out in, without having exercise equipment in my dining room and a place where I can work out in peace and get a break from a noisy house!
I no longer have a gym membership as it’s further away from my home now and I just wasn’t using it as much as I should, plus it’s so expensive, so having a home gym is perfect to keep me exercising.
I was very lucky in lockdown to be able to buy a treadmill, which I love, and I also have a spin bike which is great, but I would really love to get a few more bits for my new home gym so that I can do different workouts regularly from home.
Squat racks and stands are great for smaller spaces such as home gyms as they don’t take up too much room and can be used for a range of different exercises, not just squats. They also tend to be budget-friendly (I don’t have a lot of money to spend on my home gym!).
I have done squats with weights for a long time now, but I would like to step it up a notch and start to lift heavier and a squat rack would really help me do that safely.
Along those same lines, I would love to get some heavier dumbbells and kettlebells as I have used the same weights for a long time now and could be lifting heavier. I especially find for exercises such as deadlifts the weights I have are nowhere near heavy enough to challenge me anymore, so I could really do with investing in some heavier dumbbells, in particular.
I would actually love those dumbbells you can get where you are able to change the weight by adding and removing sections, like Kelli and Daniel from Fitness Blender have – my favourites for online workout videos.
When I do exercises such as chest presses or chest flies I do them on the floor and usually do a bridge at the same time to maximise the exercise. However, I think a weightlifting bench would really help to be able to get the full range of motion during the exercise and make my body work harder.
A weightlifting bench can be used for a range of exercises, and again, doesn’t take up too much room or cost the earth!
I would have to move my equipment around a bit and check if this would fit, but, if possible, I would love to have a rowing machine. It’s an exercise that for some reason I enjoy and I love pushing myself to keep going for longer, so it would be great to be able to do it at home. Rowing is a great cardio exercise and works your entire body, so it would be great to have.
I’m very excited and grateful to be able to have my own home gym in my new house, and I would love to add these four types of equipment to really have everything I need to work out in my garden gym!
